CCTV Forensic Recovery

Disklabs retrieve data from seemingly ‘dead’ CCTV units - in a forensically sound manner.

If you require evidence from a CCTV unit and the hardware is damaged, you would have no evidence and it would be likely that your case could be thrown out.

Disklabs are finding that more and more police forces are using the expert CCTV Forensic Recovery service from Disklabs. Frequently, the CCTV units that hold critical evidence are damaged. Sometime this damage is caused by simple hardware or software failure; sometimes it is by malicious damage.

Malicious CCTV Damage:

The most common malicious damage we see is fire damage. Often CCTV units are sent to us fire damaged. The expectation of the Officer in Command is that the suspect knows he has been caught on CCTV, therefore attempts to render it useless by trying to set the building and therefore the CCTV units on fire – supposedly making the CCTV unit’s evidence unusable.

Software/Hardware CCTV Damage:

Sometimes CCTV units simply fail. This can be because the hard drives in them fail, (or memory cards), or that the system overheats and causes various problems with the CCTV unit itself. Issues include damaged firmware on the hard drives, fans failing, causing the processing chips to overheat and fail, mechanical failure, electrical failure, power supplies failing or operator error.

WARNING:

Some CCTV units automatically start recording the moment the CCTV unit is switched on. If you have to turn on a CCTV unit, make sure you have a write blocker in place.
